I would genuinely like to know who to blame for making these children so disconnected from the concept of imagination that they think the simpler explanation for what they’re doing is that they’re projecting their consciousness into one of infinite realities where fictional characters are real.

I feel like all of these tiktok shifting people are just experiencing the stage of makdaptive daydreaming where you tell yourself that it’s real to make it feel more real. This is pretty dangerous because as the name says, maldaptive daydreaming is maldaptive. It can get to a point where that is all they do and all they have fun with, this is what happened to me when I was 13 and lead to me having almost no friends and failing two grades in a row because it was all I did.
Daydreaming can be a healthy coping mechanism but not the way these kids are doing it. Back when I still had tiktok I even saw people that were like “I spend so much time shifting I dont need real friends” or “I’m gonna give up on this reality and just stay in the ones I shift to” and they dont realize how ridiculous and unhealthy they sound because they’re on 5 layers of internet fake quantum theory and a whole online community telling them its real.

I’m pretty sure that these folks are Gen Z.
Only time will tell what mental issues gen alpha would cook up en masse ngl. But I bet it’s going to be from their fried attention spans…
