You might be frustrated by the library never having a complete manga collection on its shelves at any given time, but the 12 year old checking out 14 volumes of One Piece at once is vital to the library ecosystem. He’s like the sea otter keeping the kelp forest from being devastated by an excess of sea urchins.

—the retirees who’ve read more murder mysteries than I’ve had hot meals

—the paperback romance girlies (gender neutral) who check out every single bodice ripper the second it hits the shelves

—the dads very slowly making their way through a ‘1001 movies to see before you die’ list

—the one-man criterion collection who checks out like, three movies per day and brings them back the next. (TV series are only a minor roadblock.)

A Russian medical researcher at Harvard University is being detained at a Louisiana immigration facility after her visa was revoked last month over undeclared frog embryo samples found in her luggage, her lawyer told NBC News.

Kseniia Petrova has been in the U.S. on a J-1 scholar visa since May 2023, working at Harvard University. Her lawyer, Gregory Romanovsky, said Petrova is fighting the possible deportation back to Russia for fear of persecution and jail time over her protests decrying the Ukraine war.

I fucking told y’all that deporting people at Putin’s behest was going to be one of the major goals here.

I really don’t understand how “without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn’t like it” became a controversial take.

I don’t know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.

If you’re re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They’d love to hear it. It would make their day.

And if you don’t tell them you liked their fic, there’s no reason for them to assume you did.

Writers on AO3 when they see the hit counter on their fic go up and get an email that someone left kudos or a comment: Yay! People like my story! This made my day!

Almost half of the comments are my replies, so there are actually 27 individual comments. And almost 27,000 hits. So, basically a 1:10,000 ratio.

Do you still think writers are being unreasonable?

While 27 comments may not be much when someone gets them gradually, it’s a lot to read through to make sure you’re not contributing to unintentional spam.

unintentional spam?? I’m sorry this is just such a foreign idea to me.

I promise you there are vanishingly few authors who would be upset to receive more than one comment saying the same (positive) things!

If I receive multiple emails of comments on something I write, there is an actual zero percent chance of me being upset by it. Literally would make my day, week, month. Love your authors! Comments do not have to be detailed analysis – something as simple as “<3” conveys so much. (In fact, the very first comment I got on AO3 was “<3” and I treasure it.)

Spam your local fic author with comments. You never know what could happen.

They might fall in love with you.

Happened to the Goob author. Happened to me.

I made one of my dearest friends this way. And I bet she’d be completely unsurprised to know I still have her comments saved.

I love that the most tiny feminine delicate sweetheart of the three does the traditionaly masculine chores. Kinda makes me wanna see a teen Bubbles change a tire in a pretty dress and hair bow.

Didn’t PPG have a villain that was specifically meant to mock feminists as man haters that use feminism to harm others?

They did and if you watch the whole episode you see the PPG get tricked into letting the villain committ crime out of female solidarity.

Then several women step in to talk to the PPG about how the villain is using feminism as a scapegoat to get away with toxic and criminal behavior. And how what the villain is doing isnt actually feminist at all.

Like that episode was very good about addressing toxic behaivor from people who are supposedly woke or whatever.

An episode a lot of Tumblr should watch given the rampant radfem and terf ideology that gets spread on here.

Additionally: look at Bubble’s smile and pure joy when her sisters bring up her role. That’s not a child who’s getting shunted with the sibling chores, that’s a child who decided one Sunday morning “I’m going to wash the car, it sounds fun!” and no one has stopped her since.

I’ve seen Death depicted as a card dealer or other sort of gambler, a guy in a suit, a farmer, a robed apparition, and any other number of things, but this? This has to be the best Death I’ve seen yet. An old seductress saying “hey kid, don’t you wanna die in a trench for a government that doesn’t give a fuck about you, just like your dear old dad?” This goes hard as fuck.
