6 minute YouTube video explaining how Ramaswamy and Musk’s DOGE budget cuts are completely unrealistic. The only way they can save the $2 trillion they proposed is by cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans benefits. They are also planning on cutting the National Institute of Health, and all funding for the arts and sciences among other things. Best of all they are going to further cut taxes for the top 1% while cutting all those services to the bottom 98% of the country.

I know I harp on this a lot but I think today’s young people who entered the work force after 2010 don’t understand that aside from the very real possibility of not being able to get insurance at all, before the ACA it was easy to get trapped in a horrible job or a horrible marriage because you or your child or your spouse who was on your insurance had a pre-existing condition and would be denied by a new insurer.

The ACA/Obamacare also let them stay on their parents’ insurance until they were 26, which was not the case before that law. The absolute shock that I’ve watched my younger cousins deal with once they lost coverage at 26 has been wild to see, as someone whose twenties were marked by the experience of just not having any health insurance at all. Free birth control is another one, plus free preventive coverage (i.e. no charge for a Well Woman exam).

If only we could go back in time and add in to the law that everyone would be handed a little card that says, “FYI, you just got the thing you got because of Barack Obama and the Democratic Party” every time they experienced an ACA/Obamacare benefit.

Health care reform was a big fucking deal, as Joe Biden very astutely said.

You guys don’t remember when birth control was 100 bucks a month or over 2k for an iud. You guys don’t remember a time before gay marriage. You don’t remember before the Americans With Disabilities Act. It’s so incredibly frustrating to me to see young people act so flippant about something we fought so hard for.

I very much believe this era of history gets neglected in schools and should get more attention but I also at the same time believe young adults, especially ones who are interested in politics, should and can easily learn about this stuff on their own. It’s important! It is really frustrating!

Also seriously look up the history of the ADA. It passed in 1990.

tumblr is, if anything, the Appalachia of social media…easy to get lost, sparsely populated, out of the loop with fast-moving modern trends. Attached to tradition. Close-knit communities. Believe in “talk shit, get hit.” Everyone is doing their own thing in their own obscure little holler. Prone to pulling the most inventive turns of phrase you’ve ever heard out of nowhere. Somebody’s always starting a racket. We sometimes repel outsiders with much aggression. Lots of talk about hell and damnation to be found. Everybody tends to forget about us for some reason

Conservationists in New Mexico are celebrating the state’s expanding population of wild river otters, as their numbers have tripled in the last 14 years.

Though native to the state, the beasts were extirpated completely during the 1900s, likely due to a mixture of overtrapping and habitat destruction.

However, groups can now be seen swimming about in waterways located in communities like Taos, Angel Fire, Pilar, and Corrales along the Rio Grande, and there’s every chance this expansion will continue.

“In 2008 to 2010, the department released 33 otters, and those reintroduction efforts took otters from Washington and brought them into the upper Rio Grande,” said Carnivore and Small Mammal Program Manager for the New Mexico Dept. of Game and Fish Nick Forman to KRQE News 13.

Ecologists say they help riverine ecosystems by keeping prey species in check and improving water quality.

“They provide that ecosystem service of being a top predator,” Forman added. “It’s good to have this species back in the role it’s always played in our rivers and lakes.”

The department now is asking members of the public to send them any photos or videos of otters in the wild they take, hoping to use citizen science to better map their distribution around the state whilst conservationists mull over whether to continue with future release efforts.”

Extra details from KRQE:

“A 2018 study showed the population grew from 33 to 100 river otters statewide. More recently, the department released nine otters from Louisiana which they hope will bring genetic diversity to the current population and help the species make a comeback. “They provide that ecosystem service of being a top predator. To have them back on the landscape after being gone for so long, it’s really bringing back that native part of the landscape,” said Forman.”

Personally, I think the best way to burn the Gävle goat would be to infiltrate the security team, play the long game y’know. Join the team and keep the goat safe for 3 or 4 years, maybe even 10 years, make them trust you, maybe marry a fellow security person. Then, when they least expect it, whoosh up goes the goat, your beloved is the first on the scene, you see the devastation in their eyes as they ask ‘why? Was it all a con?’ And you will sweep your beloved off their feet and dip them in front of the blazing goat as the head crumbles into itself sending up a column of dramatic flames. And you will declare your love for two things: arson, and them. And then you sloppy kiss and run away from the law together.

Eighteen years later, a young person who looks suspiciously like the both of you joins the security team…
