You could not pay me to click on this, but the thumbnail is top tier.
I actually bothered to watch the video and I’ll do you a service by summarizing his points as quickly as possible.
Basically the video is him unpacking the whole cultural shift between “(anti)sjw” culture and how it has evolved to be our current clusterfuck of a political climate.
Back in the early 2010s, a bunch of college kids got really into civil rights movements, and the general consensus at the time was these (usually very young, emotional, and inexperienced) people were irrational and hypocritical– people thought they had to walk on eggshells around them, because if you said the wrong thing, it was very easy to upset them. A lot of people do not, in fact, like having their language policed.
So this started a counter movement of “trolling” which aimed to piss these people off as much as possible, and although for many this simply started as a “funny” pass time- over the years people started to unironically believe the offensive dribble they were spewing. Now thats the main reason why our culture has shifted massively to alt-right ideals.
OOP wasn’t really a bigot in the same way many of these people were (I followed him during my very edgy anti-religion teenage phase), he just hated the same dogma that Christians typically had- and over the years he realized it wasn’t the PEOPLE he hated, but the certain traits they exhibited.
And those traits (hypocrisy, easily offended, lack of personality outside of discourse, etc) now are being presented in the alt-right movement. MAGA republicans are now the ones being easily offended by “woke” content. They cannot watch a movie without finding something “woke” to be offended about. Everything they accused “sjws” of being was now them.
I should also mention that the thumbnail is a scene from the british comedy show “That Mitchell and Webb Look” in which the two actors play as WW2 Nazi soldiers- one of which notices the literal skulls on their uniforms, who proceeds to ask “Are we the baddies?”
A brilliant choice for a thumbnail for this subject- because now he and several other people are realizing- yeah, you are exactly what you accused us of being.
I’m kind of obsessed with how Patrick Stewart is Not gay. He’s literally straight he just acts like that. Ian McKellen is gay so it’s easy to think logically that so is Patrick Stewart but he’s not. Unparalleled. Don’t call yourself an ally unless you kiss your gay friends on the mouth
And it’d be easy to think Well maybe he’s just private about it because he’s old, yknow. But literally at this point I think he’d be like “oh yeah I’m bi I just like marrying women” or whatever if he Was. If he was closeted he wouldn’t be publically kissing Ian McKellen on the mouth. I think he just went to Shakespeare School with a bunch of queens and that’s where he learned how to socialize
I mean his book does talk about exactly this.
“I was around a lot of gay people and imitated their flamboyant mannerisms. Anyway here’s a half dozen times I nearly ruined my life because I was hypnotized by a beautiful woman.”
babe. I know we’re all going thru a lot rn but I just wanna give u the heads up that sesame streets future is in jeopardy. hbo has chosen not to renew it for new episodes (a series that has been going since 1969) and the residents of 123 Sesame Street no longer have a home 😦
n all seriousness sesame street is such an important piece of living media. it has been around for DECADES and from day 1 highlighted the importance of diversity empathy and education for children in a fun way. their mission statement is “Helping Kids Everywhere Grow Smarter, Stronger, and Kinder”. it’s been such an influence for so many people at a formative age. it’s creators made it w the intention that it could be a resource for underprivileged kids and help them prepare for kindergarten. thousands of people have learned english from our friends on sesame. pls (at media corporations) don’t let a beloved cultural phenomenon die
Would be lovely if people could spread this link to their donations page around the internet
Today my toddler INSISTED we open every sauce that came with our Chinese take out so she could sample every single one. She didn’t care for the spicy mustard, she LOVED the soy sauce, she said BLEH BLEH to duck sauce, and she said OH SO GOOD to sweet and sour
She then decided she needed to shove an ENTIRE crab Rangoon into her mouth which gave me a heart attack but she did in fact manage to eat the entire thing with minimal effort on her part. This was after she chanted “RANGOON RANGOON RANGOON!” at us until we gave her one.
this post has been up for five hours and has two notes. i think tumblr shitcanned it because it has pictures of women wearing bras on it. very cool. no censorship message, just vanishing it
