all demographics and time periods and geography taken fully into consideration, some people were just born to lose
was thinking of this guy when i made this post. invented the two most environmentally damaging chemicals in history and then got polio and immediately killed himself with a contraption
“one-man environmental disaster”
they called that man an organism
as bad as your worst day has ever been, do you have a wikipedia article saying you “possess an instinct for the regrettable that is almost uncanny”
something has gone deeply wrong when “focusing pragmatically on issues you can influence and working to make life better for yourself and your community” is considered an unserious distraction while “endlessly exposing yourself to media about distressing situations you can’t control” is considered political engagement
Younger writers. Please, just know that you could not skip to different songs on a cassette tape, that’s CDs. With tapes pressed fast forward or rewind and prayed.
Also, VHS tapes did not have menu screens. Your only options were play, fast forward, rewind, pause, stop, or eject.
Y’all are making me feel like the crypt keeper here, I’m begging you 😭
Also since there was no skipping, your brain would remember what order the songs were in so in your head, Walk of Life always played after Fortunate Son, which always played after Radar Love. It took a long time for it to stop being weird that those songs could play in a different order when CDs came out. At least for me.
And some songs cut off at the end of the tape! The ones you made yourself anyway, so your brain would also start thinking that is legit the end of the song and then you heard it on the radio and it played the whole thing and you were like, What is this, Narnia? There’s more to the song? Because you forgot.
The tapes recorded from the radio with the voice of the host? More likely than you’d think. Bit of advertising you were not fast enough to pause when recording a movie from the TV yup, that was always there. Your favourite scene in the movie had lines at the top from being watched and rewind over and over again. Yup, that too.
I happened to stumble upon this when I was reading an old article about Xena. It mentioned a club having a Xena Night and boy was I not disappointed by these pictures that I then found. WLW culture at it’s finest.
If you’re American will you reblog this with where you grew up and wether or not they had sixth grade camp. I grew up in southern California and every class in sixth grade would take a field trip and go to a camp for a week and this is absolutely bewildering my wife cause she’s never heard of sixth grade camp
Referred to as “the
Dusseldorf patient” to protect his privacy, researchers said he is the
fifth confirmed case of an HIV cure. Although the details of his
successful treatment were first announced at a conference in 2019,
researchers could not confirm he had been officially cured at that time.
Today,
researchers announced the Dusseldorf patient still has no detectable
virus in his body, even after stopping his HIV medication four years
ago.
