Haiku bot is one of the funniest features on this website bc you basically get free blaze but only if your post abides by 5:7:5 syllables and the bot finds it
just another way in which tumblr works on fae rules
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are feeling the wrath of constituents as their phone lines light up with complaints, worries and confusion over Elon Musk’s efforts to gut government programs and fire longtime civil servants.
Just a reminder:
–if the person you get has no clue what you’re on about, please realize it is entirely likely to be a VERY new intern this time of year, half of them can barely find their way around the buildings yet, be nice
–use state AND national offices. make a stink
–most of these folks have email and phone so use all available contact methods you can
–if it’s a Senator, see if they’re up for reelection in 2026. Threaten a primary. Don’t tell them your political affiliation, just threaten a primary.
A great website tracking all the companies that have bent the knee to Trump and eliminated their DEI programs, and all the companies that have stood strong.
“There’s a man who sits oh his back porch and threatens anyone walking through the alley with a gun. He will try to get you onto his property so that he can shoot you and claim you were trespassing. Please be careful if you use (alley) to navigate downtown, and tell your kids not to use this alley to get to and from school.”
Several other people in the thread:
“Wow, he has a right to own a gun.”
“None of that is illegal.”
“It’s his property.”
“Woke much?”
“I’d want to hear his side of the story.”
You know, I grew up in a really conservative small town in a very conservative state and when I was a kid, this would not have flown. Someone would have gone and talked with the guy at the very least and probably have involved the police. It’s wild seeing how this has shifted.
This town is making moves towards being more progressive, which I think is giving oxygen to the ‘culture war.’
I think the ‘both sides’ people are assuming that the person posting is doing so out of an anti-gun perspective instead of a ‘this dude is behaving erratically and the cops aren’t responding to it, please avoid’ perspective.
Someone who used to be his neighbor chimed in and said ‘oh yeah, he’s very argumentative and will go out of his way to have an altercation, so it doesn’t surprise us that he’s doing this. He knows the exact boundaries of the law and he tries to get other people to break it first so he can use tge ‘stand your ground’ statute.’
And there’s still people like:
“Well, when I was a kid I did some awful things so maybe he has a right and good reason to protect his property.”
Straight up will never understand
I think in any situation where someone’s like ‘avoid this person because he will try to kill you if he thinks he can get away with it’ and you respond with, essentially, ‘well he can if he wants to’,,,,, I would very much avoid you too
Hey remember that a boycott if actually MORE effective under capitalism if you profess you would actually end the boycott under certain conditions.
“Nothing this company does can make up for their bad actions, I will never buy from them again!” Okay so they’ve lost you as a customer and have no reason to try and get you back. You can HOPE to drive them into bankruptcy but Chic-Fil-A is evidence of how well that works.
“This company did something bad. I would not consider buying their product again, UNLESS, they publicly apologized and made up for it by … [donating money to a cause, promoting different content, offering better care to their employees, etc.]” This is actually MORE likely to be effective because if enough people say this, the company m sees them as potential customers of a certain demographic, and is willing to make changes to get those customers back and, long term, make money from them.
A lot of people wildly “boycott” without any messaging for conditions to end the boycott. Agree on your demands! Specifics like “pay employees 25$/hr or more” and “make kosher/halal labels standard across your products” and “permanently stop financial support toward this political cause,” are clearer and more actionable than “do better.”
