The North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled in a 2-1 decision that over 60,000 votes cast in last year’s closely contested state Supreme Court race must be verified and recounted. The ruling comes after Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin, who lost the race, challenged the eligibility of tens of thousands of 2024 voters. one of my friends has CAIS. they were assigned female and have a prostate. they have been denied prostate exams multiple times on the basis of “being assigned female” despite insisting that they had valid concerns about symptoms that aligned with prostate cancer. guess what happened when they finally got an exam? they ended up having prostate cancer
it fortunately is now in complete remission, which is why they’re comfortable with me talking about it, but you see the issue here? biology is never as simple as assigned sex, by judging the care someone needs by their proximity to maleness or femaleness any mixed or otherwise “abnormal” sex characteristics they have are completely ignored
it doesn’t just affect intersex people either, you’re throwing trans people under the bus as well. transitioning does change your sex characteristics, trans people should have access to medical care that is catered to their body and not to their assigned sex

I’d like to draw attention to a couple of stories where immigrants were detained by ICE–a mother and her 3 children in New York and a couple who owned a kebab shop in New Jersey–but in both cases, they were released after outrage from their respective communities. The superintendent of the children’s school was “leading efforts to ensure the family’s release” in the NY case, and Haddon Township residents donated over $300,000 to the NJ couple’s GoFundMe for their legal fees.
This is why it matters for communities to support its members and speak out against injustice. This administration will not do everything it wants as long as people keep fighting back.
