Detective L is set in 1930s Republic-era French Concession Shanghai, so these colorful trade paperbacks are a bit anachronistic… but I had to giggle and screenshot them anyway because some of these are the exact same books that populate the SID library in Guardian. So once again we have Bai Yu (that’s the back of his head there) facing a shelf full of such classics as Glowienka, IMPKPIAL CROWN, and my favorite, AbCDE 123.
(Based on the exteriors, I’m positive both series were shot at Shanghai Chedun Film Park, so it would make sense to have sourced their set properties from the same stock. Some of these books might literally be the same copies used in Guardian.)
