So you’ve probably heard about the attack on Medicaid. As this short points out, in addition to the support it provides to impoverished individuals, Medicaid typically ends up paying for nursing homes, assisted living, and end of life care when a person’s own assets can no longer do so.
Also, fun fact, 30 states have ‘filial responsibility’ laws on the books. Basically, what this means, is in the absence of Medicaid, the children, including estranged children, of the elderly can be held responsible for those costs, to the point of wage garnishing and loss of assets.
Add that to an aging, top heavy population, the costs of healthcare and… financial implosion across the line.
So even if you think the attacks on Medicaid won’t affect you…there’s a pretty good chance they will.
