If anyone in the US is interested in how we’re coping with Trump overseas, today one of my colleagues who specialises in European policy just emailed me with the opener of ‘Hi Hannah, hope you’re doing well despite Trump’. So there’s that.
(NO, PHILIPPE. NO, I AM NOT DOING WELL DESPITE TRUMP.)
my reaction whenever anyone asks me how I’m feeling about Trump’s continued existence
Pour one out for Philippe: who just published a fairly standard article about European rearmament in the face of the Ukraine war last week, then presumably saw the shitshow between Trump and Zelensky on Friday, the European summit over the weekend, and the cutting off of US military aid on Tuesday, and then presumably screamed into a pillow and sat down to write a whole other fucking article all over again.
Godspeed, Philippe. Godspeed. As someone who literally also started trying to write a lengthy and detailed policy/briefing document about Ukraine yesterday, after the past 48 hours had already happened and before whatever the godforsaken fuck happens in the next 48, I deeply feel his pain.
This is how I’m picturing Phillipe:
except. you know. French.
Hey, hey, hey, I know we’re all striving for a feeling of European fraternity and unity and all that, but I cannot in all good conscience allow poor Philippe to be misrepresented like this.
