If you’re getting a little burned out on calling your reps (fair), maybe take a minute to try contacting your local small news sources too. Local papers, local radio, etc.. You can use pretty much the same scripts, honestly. Let them know what you’re concerned about and why.
I got my local paper to start an investigation on the Wildland Firefighter pay issue stuff, and it’s a rural paper so there’s a lot of people who will be directly effected by the potential loss of wildland firefighters that will now be made aware of the issue. That’s a lot more voices for the cause.
I work at a community newspaper and everything said above is correct. We WANT to hear how the policies of the current administration are affecting you. Each newspaper has regional issues that are important to readers. If the current policies are hurting those jobs, those people, that industry as a whole, tell us. We can’t publish what we don’t know.
You don’t have to write a novel. Give us the general idea of what’s upsetting you and we’ll do the rest. Or if you want you can write a “letter to the editor” which is an opinioned article that will run alongside other readers’ letters.
Community newspapers and local news stations want to hear how all this is affecting you.
More info from an actual newsy person!
