Sometimes I see people from countries with public healthcare systems post videos that are like “This is the reality of socialized medicine. I had to wait in the ER with my sick baby for 4 hours.” “I had to wait 8 months to see a specialist. That’s egregious.” or “They didn’t have a bed for my loved one in mental health treatment.” and it’s like. Come to America babygirl. You can experience all of this and have your insurance deny it and pay thousands and thousands of dollars for it. Like I know healthcare systems in countries with public health can be bad but when I see someone imply they’re bad because the healthcare is universal, I want to jump through the screen and put my elbow on their throat. “The NHS is deeply flawed, therefore we should abolish it and go back to private healthcare. That will definitely make healthcare in this country better!” I am going to Kill You.

Preserving prev’s tags here, because yes:

It’s a weird sort of “temporarily embarrassed millionaire” logic because people think “Oh if it was privatised then I could pay to jump the queue” and no, no you can’t you will never have that sort of money, ever.

You will never ever ever ever have Rich People Stuff because they deliberately keep it out of your peasant hands. Angry about that? Wanna rip it outta their greedy paws? Well congrats, you have an NHS, it’s already doing that. Now go eat the people trying to destroy it.

Also the reason you are left in the waiting room for four hours or whatever is because there are people sicker than you who are getting precedence.

I know that waiting sucks, but I promise that theyre not just leaving you waiting for the hell of it. It’s because there are people worse off than you who need to be seen first.

The moment that there is a bed and staff available, and no one more sick than you, you’ll be brought through. And yes there are absolutely issues with funding cuts reducing hospital capturing terms of both bed numbers and staffing, but that’s not the fault of the staff who I promise, are doing their utmost to bring you through as soon as possible.
